Recently (possibly since Windows XP Service pack 1a was
installed) many links will not work in Internet Explorer6.
0. For example, I was on this very web-page in IE6 - and
could not open the window "New Post" to write this message.
I opened the Opera browser, and am writing this in Opera. I
have had the same experience with all other links that are
not "clickable" in IE6: they work perfectly well in Opera.
I have tried to reduce the security levels to minimum
(Tools\Internet Options\security and privacy tabs), but
without improvement. I have de-activated the "pop-up
blocker" in the Google toolbar; I have de-activated my
firewall: nothing works. The problem seems to be
particularly frequent with links that should open up new
windows while the main window remains active (such as when
you want to Post a new message on this very website where I
am writing this).
As mentioned above, this problem has only been experienced
in the last 4-6 weeks or so; before that IE6 worked so well
that I no longer used Opera as I had on previous computers
with older versions of Windows than XP.
Since the problem seemed to begin about the time when the
Windows XP Service pack 1a was installed, I began to
de-install it (Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs) but
was scared from doing that by a message saying that
removing it might prevent most applications from working.
I'd be very grateful for suggestions.
Best regards,
