This is truly petty but it is a constant irritant to me so
I hope someone knows how to rid myself of this dumb folder.

I have been using computers since pre-Windows days and
online for at least 15 years. I have 1000's of items
in "favorites", all neatly organized in folders and
subfolders. Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, decided to
add a "links" toolbar and a links folder which
automatically showed up when I upgraded IE (while ago so
it might be a couple of upgrades ago) I immediately
disabled the toolbar, and deleted the links folder along
with all the trash Microsoft puts in your favorites every
time you upgrade or repair IE. But the folder keeps
resurfacing. I delete it 10 or more times a day, because
I HATE HATE HATE the dumb thing. I will never ever put a
file in it as it is a meaningless title and only someone
with very few sites would want it, I would think. I have
searched help and the Knowledge Base. I just want to ride
myself of the pestilential thing.

You cannot get rid of it.
If you don't want to see the Links folder, then set its attributes to
Hidden.

"Links" is a fixed component of Internet Explorer. It is
not possible to delete it. However, with Tweak-UI powertoy
you can opt to hide it, so that it is not visible. From
the General category, scroll to find the option "Show
Links on Favorites Menu". Also you can reposition the
Links toolbar inside of IE, so that no items are visible.

actually it makes a real neat toolbar with lots of sites
across the window. set the other toolbars as the top and
links as the second. not need for google or yahoo
toolbars. with the favicons from various sites it makes
very customized toolbar.

Peg,

Hide Links Folder on Favorites Menu (All Windows):

Or, set Hidden Attributes for the Links folder.
