links don't open properly

Please help! often when I click on a link in a web page the page only opens in a "minimized" state and I have to click on the minimize/maximize button to show the page (ie. only the top header bar opens, not showing the full page). What is causing this and can I fix it. This never happens when opening new web pages, only when clicking on links

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window.
