Links changed from relative (on web site) to absolute (on my drive

All the internal links (pointing at pages and documents within my web site)
have become unusable because their full path name was changed from a relative
link (based on my domain name: www.mthigh.org) to an absolute address (based
on the location of the files on my computer). So, for example, the URL
address of the "Events" page has changed:

From: http://www.mthigh.org/Events.htm

To: file:///C:/Documents and Settings/Emilio/Data/Web/MtHigh/Events.htm

I could not find any automatic way to reverse this, so I manually changed
all the links I could find. However, I then found out that the same thing
has happenned to all the URLs referencing the locations of all the images
(photos) within the web site. The addresses of all the photos are now
pointing to a directory on my computer instead of to the web site.

Is there any way to change this back to addressing the files on the web site
(on the server, instead of on my computer)? I already have too many photos
on the web site to try to change them all manually.

I use Microsoft Front Page 2003 (version 11.5516.5606).

Usually caused by you either Editing the page outside of the FP web site or not File importing the images before using them
Open you FP site and try using search/find and replace (all page in code view)
Search for
file:///C:/Documents and Settings/Emilio/Data/Web/MtHigh/
Replace with nothing (if your images are all in the same folders as your pages)

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for your advice. In fact, I found some similar advice -also from
you- made to another similar inquiry in this newsgroup.

Yes, your advice worked. Find and Replace did it, ... in the code view. It's
interesting that editing it in the Design view did not help. Not only is it
slower that way, but some of the URLs persistently kept returning to my hard
disk.

I beleive that was because I am using a Dynamic Web Template, and that's
what was forcing a reference to my hard disk. Apparently the part of each web
page that refers to the Dynamic Web Template is "uneditable".

Anyway, editing in the Code view - and then selecting to Keep the changes
made to the uneditable code - did the trick. Thanks for pointing me in the
right direction

I quite often find that a few hyperlinks have the full file path. A report
or check on hyperlinks does not file this because of course the path works OK
on my PC. I usually only find out when someone tells me that there is a bad
link.

I never edit pages outside Front Page so cannot see how that can be the cause.

It is usually a link to a page rather than an image so don't think the other
explanation is the reason.

There must be some other reason for this happening so often.

I will try a Find/Replace to see if there are any that I have missed.

I not sure how I can do things differently.

It seems to be links to other pages that are changed or created as absolute
links

Normally I will type in the text where I want to link from, highlight it
then click on Hyperlink and then Create a new page

Alternatively I will highlight a word or group of words, click on Hyperlink
icon then select another page to link to. The page will be open so at the
top of the list.

99% of the time this works fine but just occasionally I find that I have an
absolute link.

A normal report check or update of hyperlinks does not find these. I have
found the only way is to do a search of the code so that hyperlinks are
searched.
