Links 2003 hangs at start up in XP with RADEON 7500.

Have Windows XP Pro (SP1) with ATI RADEON 7500 video card on a dual boot system with Windows ME on the other partition. Installed Links 2003 on both partitions and it works fine with ME but can't get it to work on the XP. When I click the Links icon the window opens (normal size) with the hour glass cursor and it doesn't get past that with the system itself hanging sometimes. I can never get to the title page of Links. Help sources suggest it is a video card problem and specifically 3D. I installed the MS "Links2k3Patch102.exe" patch and latest DirectX with same results. Did the DirectX check and all look fine. It must be the combination of XP and the RADEON 7500 card as I stated above the same hardware works fine on the other partition with ME. Tried several ATI RADEON drivers including the latest one as suggested in the literature. None get it working. Then used the driver that Windows Update suggested - again no dice. Same result using the windows default driver. Are there video setttngs that might work
Any help appreciated - this is driving Ranger to distraction!

Starts fine here under both 98SE and XP Pro in a dual-boot system. Using a
Radeon 64DDR VIVO - 7200.

Have you first tried to start it in the game using it's "Safe Mode"
shortcut?

What motherboard chipset are you using? If the literature is suggesting
it's a video driver problem it may also require new chipset drivers for your
AGP bus.

Yeah, did try under Safe Mode with same result
AGP drivers may be the problem as mentioned by Neil. Will checkit out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went to motherboard site (Asus) and downloaded their latest AGP drivers and installed them with same result for Links. That Asus driver didn't specifically mention XP (did mention 2K) so I don't know if it is what I want. I went to VIA (the chipset manufacturer) and found something that seemed compatible and again no difference to Links. I do think though that the AGP driver may still the problem but getting the right driver doesn't seem that straightforward

What ASUS motherboard do you have? I see what you mean about the confusing
driver layouts on VIA's site:

http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300

There's a Retro Chipset drivers section with this note: VIA Hyperion 4in1
drivers are compatible with any VIA chipset. Performance, however, is
optimized for the more recent and the latest chipsets. Therefore some users
of slightly older or legacy chipsets report that using the older 4.43
drivers they experience a more responsive system.
