Linking to a page to open in a new tab

I am using FrontPage 2003 and would like to have a link on my site open in a
new tab. If I select the target frame as new window (_blank) it opens an
entirely new broswer.

Any suggestions or can it even be done?

Most browsers in use today (IE6) do not have tabbed browsing.
For the rest, it is up to the individuals to configure their browsers to
open new windows and pop-ups as a new tab if that option is available.
(IE7 appears to have that option only for pop-ups, not new windows)

That part I undersdtand.

However, I do have IE 7 and some pages open in a new tab and some don't. If
there is coding that I can insert in to FrontPage 2003 to force it... that is
what I am looking for, if not, I will still sleep tonight

By the way if I right click on a link, my options are (open in "new tab" or
"new window") Thats why I was thinking there should be coding for it.

Assembler,

I have disabled tabs on my IE7 and Firefox. Don't force any user to do
something that they don't want. Tabs would be nice if I didn't have four or
five browsers open at the same time.

There is no coding in HTML to force this behaviour - it is all down to
individual users to configure their browsers. My IE7 is configured to
open pop-ups in a new tab, but links to new windows open in new windows,
and I have not found a way to change that.
Opera seems to open everything in a new tab.

It cannot be done.
First, most browsers in use do not support tabs. It will be difficult
to open a new tab in IE6.
Other browsers that support tabbed browsing (FireFox, Opera, IE7) have
to be set up to the users preference. IE7 will always open a new window
in a new browser, but pop-ups can be opened as a new tab; FireFox can
open new windows as new tabs but pop-ups open as a pop-up window. Opera
does both.
Note that these are user settings, there is no HTML or web page
scripting that can effect these settings.
