Linking Excel File with Word

I am trying to copy and paste an Excel table into Word. (Copy/Paste
Special/Paste Link/MS object) After linking the table, I format it in Word
to fit on one page. (Format Object/Size) When I reopen word and answer yes
to updating the links all of the formatting changes. Any suggestions on how
to keep the formatting from changing?

I can't seem to reproduce what you are describing. I can certainly resize
the inserted object and it will retain its size when I save, close and
reopen Word. Which version are you using by the way?

Note that you can choose to paste special as RTF instead. You can still link
the pasted data, but it will display like an "ordinary" Word table, which
means that it can flow to the next page if necessary.

Thanks for your help. Try an example where the excel table has 60 rows and
10 columns. When the table is very long, the formatting changes seem worse.
I have a feeling I need to check/uncheck a box somewhere. Is there a way to
reset all options to the defaults?

The versions are:
word 2007 (12.0.6331.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)
Excel 2007 (12.0.6341.5001) SP1 MSO (12.0.6320.5000)
MS XP Professional Service Pack 3

I also installed an earlier version of MS Office and still had the same
problem.

I did try the RTF option. The table number didn't carry over well. I need
the table to be on one page. I couldn't figure out how to resize it. I'll
do some more work to see if I can make this option work. Thanks for the
suggestion.

If you paste as RTF, you will basically get a Word table of linked data,
so you can resize it the way you would resize a Word table. In other words,
what you can do is adjust the table width to fit between the margins, and
you can change the row heights and font sizes to make more rows fit on the
same page.

To adjust the table width to the width of the page margins, do the
following: Click in the table. On the Table Tools Layout tab of the ribbon,
click AutoFit, and then click AutoFit Window. Then click AutoFit again, and
click Fixed Column Width. This should prevent the columns from resizing.
