Linking Excel Data to PPT Charts data sheet

I was asked a question by a work colleague on linking excel data to create
charts in PPT. Is linking the excel data directly to the PPT chart data
sheet, creating chart type, and formatting in PPT the best way to do this? I
thought creating the charts in Excel on there own chart sheet then copy,
paste link the chart into a PPT slide and resizing for desired look may be
easier. They are looking to create a slide with 4 charts with consistentcy.
I know some problems come up when you copy excel data into the PPT chart data
sheet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PPT 2002, Excel 2002.

It depends on what you're after ... if you want the charts to update
automatically with new data from the original Excel sheets/charts when you open
the PPT file, you want to link from Excel charts to PPT, not to the data sheet
in PPT.

If you specifically do NOT want automatic updates or any updates unless the user
doubleclicks on the chart to activate it first, then linking from Excel data to
the PPT chart datasheet's one way to get there.
