Linking emails to opportunities: not automatic?

I track multiple opportunities per account, the opportunities basically
acting as project placeholders. Is there a way that emails can
automatically be linked to an opportunity?

Also, if an email has been linked to an opportunity I find the reply to
the email will not be (automatically) linked. Is that the expected
behaviour?

And finally, there indeed is (still) no way to link an email while
composing (versus going into the Sent folder and doing it from there) ?

You cannot create or draft an email directly from the opportunity form using
the "New" button nor can you immediately link an email to an opportunity as
you are composing the email. However, once an email already exists as having
either been sent or received you just open the message item and in the upper
right corner is the BCM added in tool bar. Click on the Link to Record
Button and you can then select the opportunity (or Account, or Business
Contact) that you want to link that individual email message to. It then
appears chronologically among all of the other Opportunity History items.

Hope that helps.

You can automatically link emails to Business Contact or Account Records.
Opportunity records can only be linked manually to emails.

Tim, thank you for your replies. It's a small "bug" to deal with all
the time.

I dislike auto-linking, in fact. Linking per message/task creates a
finer overview of *relevant* data.
