Linked Table Selection Fails

Hi,
I'm having a weird problem I haven't been able to fix. I have an Access
2003 front end with a SQL Server 2000 back end (specifically, it's a SQL
Server MSDE version). When I attempt to add a new linked table, I select the
Link Table option from the Get External data menu selection. I then get the
File Open menu. When I select the ODBC Database option, nothing else opens
and the File Open menu closes (as it should). I don't get the "Select Data
Source" window. However, if I open the Linked Table Manager, I can
successfully open the "Select Data Source" window and can select my ODBC
connection under "Machine Data Sources" tab and update the links. I just
can't add a new link.

I tried doing a repair/reinstall more than once, but it didn't work. I was
hoping to avoid uninstalling Office. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul;
I am also getting the same issue, but the linked table manager does not work
either in Access 2003, the one thing I notice is that I have Windows vista
installed. I have another box with Vista and Office 2007 and the link tables
work great. I'm still looking into the issue with 2003.

I thought I was the only one with this! I'm running XP Pro. I build
databases (mostly SQL Server) and customize Office. I have Office 2000
Access still installed on the machine. I can open 2000 and get to the Link
Manager to create a new link, then I export it to the Access 2003 front end,
but this isn't the best fix. I want to ditch the old Office, but I'm hanging
onto it just for this reason. Let me know if you find anything further!

Thanks,
