Linked File Updates

I have a spreadsheet (first file) that contains cell
values that are linked to certain cells in a second Excel
file. This second file has values that are linked
to a third file.

Problem: when I open the first file and click 'yes' when
prompted to link files, the values do not always reflect
the most recent updates to the other workbooks. But I
notice that when I open the second file, the first file
updates correctly.

Is there a way to get all linked values in workbooks 1-3
to update automatically, without having to open the
intermediary (second) file?

Hi Marie
AFAIK Excel only updates one level deep. In this case workbook one gets
the current values from workbook 2 (but workbook 2 does NOT refresh the
data from workbook 3) if workbook 2,3 are closed
