Link to text in another doc, show as page #

I'm working in 2 Word 2007 documents. Doc 1 contains a table into which I
need to reference the page # in Doc 2 on which specific text is located. As
the text in Doc 2 is edited, the location of the referenced text may change
so I need the link in Doc 1 to update. I've already created bookmarks in Doc
2 and tried various ways to link them to Doc 1 but can't find a way to make
the link in Doc 1 refer to the (variable) page number.

I'm not familiar with macros, so if that's the answer, I'll need fairly
detailed instructions.

Thank you.

Ah, yes, I think I remember how to do this one :) You do need to insert a page
number into the text (not header or footer) of Doc1, select and bookmark it.
Since you probably don't want to SEE it in Doc1, you can format it as "hidden".

In Doc2 you need the IncludeText field and specify the bookmark name after the
file path. Use the \* CharFormat switch to override the hidden formatting and
the \! Switch to prevent the page number from updating to the current page
number in Doc2. Roughly:
{ IncludeText "C:\path\doc.doc" PgBookmark \* \! }
