How do I....

I want to package a presentation to a CD w/PP 2003 (I can do that much). I
need to instruct viewers to print a hard copy of a PDF file that should
accompany their viewing of the presenatation. I am sure there are several
ways to do this but I am also sure I don't know the most elegant solution.
Can I put instructions and a link to the PDF file that is also on the CD on
the first slide? Seems logical but I couldn't figure out what the link
address would be. Maybe there's a better way....

Thanks for any help.

No, I think that's the best bet.

Put the PDF and your PPT in the same folder on the HDD.
Add an action setting that links to the PDF (action setting, hyperlink to,
Other File)

Burn the CD, making sure that the PPT and PDF stay in the same folder on the CD
as well.

Test the new CD on a different computer to make sure that the link works.

The link will only work if the user has a copy of Acrobat or Reader on their
system, of course. Or some other program that can display PDFs.

The link will NOT work if they have Reader 7. Adobe seems to think that by
shooting themselves in the foot, they can hurt MS. Pity that they manage to
wing us innocent bystanders every time.

It'd be a good idea to include a bit more instructions, then. "If the file
doesn't launch when you click this icon, navigate to XXX.PDF on this CD in
Windows Explorer and double click it"

Steve:

BTW, I meant to ask, what is it about Reader 7 and the proceedure you
described that makes this idea not work?

Reader 7 itself. It's buggy.

Thanks. Just curious. - Jmorse

No problem. I wish I had a more thorough answer for you, but Adobe hasn't
supplied one, nobody else has access to the Readerinnards, and the same links
DO work with other versions of Reader. So the best we can do for now is ...

<shrug>

It's busted.
