Link bar won't display text links, just buttons

B

Bob Granflaten

I'm managing a small Web site for my condo association. I
have encountered a problem wherein the left navigation bar
in a shared border will not display links as text in a
browser, just as buttons. I have edited the link bar
properties to display them as text links, and they do
appear as text links within FrontPage (including in the
preview pane), but in the browser they show up as buttons.
I've tried turning shared borders off and back on. I've
deleted the navigation from the link bar and reinserted
it. I've done a recalc. I have applied different themes
and it still does the same thing. Any thoughts anyone
might have on this would be greatly appreciated (I had my
IT guy look at it and he can't determine why it's
happening either.). Thanks.

Let me know if you figure out how to fix it.

FP2002: Quick Launch Link Is Not Added via the Add Link
Dialog Box
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft FrontPage 2002
SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft

This article was previously published under Q275295

SYMPTOMS
When you add a link to a subweb in the Quick Launch bar
of a SharePoint team Web site, or when you add a link to
the Custom Link bar of a FrontPage Web with FrontPage
2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft, the link may not
appear on the page. The link that is added appears in
normal view and in preview, but it does not appear when
you actually go to the page by using your browser.
CAUSE
The Link Bar Properties dialog box is not writing the
complete URL of the subweb.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use one of the following
methods.
SharePoint Team Web Site
Switch to navigation view in FrontPage.
Right-click the SharePoint Left Quick Launch Navbar page,
and then click Add Existing Page.
In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, type the URL of the
subweb.
FrontPage Web
Switch to navigation view in FrontPage.
Right-click Home Page or the page that displays the link
bar, and then click Add Existing Page.
Click Current Folder, and then click the subweb or page
in the subweb that you want to link to.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the
Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of
this article.

Thanks, Ann. If I can figure out a fix, I will let you
know. However, I agree that the suggested workaround for a
FrontPage Web doesn't even seem to make sense.

Provide a URL of the page
Check your file names (no spaces or punctuation)
Also find and delete any *.web files in Windows Explorer and open then web in FP
