Link bar problems- length of image filenames

I have a site I'm working on that has a link bar using the "slate" theme. The problem is that the image file names that frontpage automatically assigns are too long for FirstClass 7 (the serve program), which only takes up to 31 characters. A typical name is "site map.htm_cmp_Slate110_hbtn_p" which is just over. Is there any option in Frontpage to cut the filenames down? Manually cutting down the over 30 files and all references in the code is something I would prefer not to have to do.
 
Sorry, there is no function in FP to shorten the generated names.

As a guide the _derived folder(s) filenames generated by FP can require up to 19 Extra Characters in addition to the Combined Length
of your "filename.ext" & "theme_name" - so if your server/pc limit is 31 you only have 12 characters TOTAL for both!

Customize your theme and save it as a new theme name - say: sl
That leaves you 10 characters for file names (4 of which will be .htm)
