link a PowerPoint presentation from a word document

I was trying to hyperlink a word document to a PowerPoint presentation. Both
are sittuated inside two different network drives. As soon as I hyperlink the
PowerPoint file from inside the Wrd documents, It functions, but immediately
I save the word document the link does not function again. It just prompt
"The address of this site is not valid. Check the address and try again."
 
One possibility is that you need to uncheck
Word Tools|Options|General|Web options|Files|Update links on save

It affects links even when you aren't saving as a web page.
