Lines I can't delete

K

Kolja

I have these single black lines in my document that sit
between two lines of written text. When I put the mouse
over it, I can grab it and drag it down or up, but only up
against the line of text above it and no further.

What are these lines and how do I delete them?

Selecting them in my document does not work. Selecting
everything from the line of text above to the black line
to the line of text below the black line, and then
deleting doesn't work either.

Please help.

They are borders, probably inserted because under Tools>AutoCorrect Options,
you have the "Border lines" box checked under the "Apply as you type"
section of the "AutoFormat As You Type" dialog.

The borders will be created by typing --- and pressing the Enter key.

To stop that happening, uncheck the abovementioned box.

To remove them, select Borders and Shading from the Format menu.

Thanks for your help. And then what?

P.S. These borders lines that I am talking about also
print out on the document.

Select the paragraph that has the border (the one above the line), then from
the Format menu, select Borders and Shading and then click on the None
button or on the line in the Preview section of the dialog.
