How do I remove a horizontal line "added while typing"?

I added a horizontal line to my WORD document by hitting "enter", three
hyphens, and "enter" again. I meant it to be temporary but now I can't get
rid of it! It can't be selected and deleted. It seems to linked to the text
immediately above it. Highlighting it together with that text and hitting
delete seems for an instant to remove them both, but then the line reappears
under the text that was above what I just deleted. (The deleted text does not
come back, however.)

It's a Border on the previous paragraph. Go to "Borders and Shading"
and tell it to go away.

(Undo = Ctrl-Z will make the deleted text come back.)
