Lines appear in my Word docs, like the horizontal border of a box.

Hi - this is most annoying. These horizontal lines, like the upper or lower
border of a box, keep appearing in my Word docs, and they refuse to
disappear, in fact they seem to propagate themselves; also, they cause a
formatting problem - a gap appears between paragraphs between one page and
the next, even though I'm in normal view.

I'd be most appreciative of any assistance, as it's distracting me from my
work.
