Line border next to text (not whole paragraph or whole page)

I love how you can easily put a line on the left side of the page or
paragraph in Word 2007 and the line does NOT disappear when you turn the Word
document into a pdf. However, I cannot get Word 2007 to put a line on the
left side of selected text within a paragraph. I'm given the choice to
choose between text or paragraph. When I choose text it insist on putting a
box around the text. I'm given -0- (zero) options to choose just one line on
the left.

Can anyone help with this?
Thank you.

You can use an EQ field to accomplish what you want:

{ EQ \x \le (text here) }

To insert the field delimiters, { }, press Ctrl+F9. Then type the field
code as shown. Press F9 to update the field. If you need to modify the
field, use Alt+F9 to show/hide field codes.

Note that the EQ field produces an error if the text is more than one
line.
