Anyone been able to download the Lindows freebie with a download
accelerator?

I've tried repeatedly with Stardownloader 1.42, but all it picks up is
a 1KB file. MSIE seems to die after about a half hour - I've gotten as
far as 143MB....

Someone at the PCWelt forum reported downloading it with GetRight, but
gave no specifics except that he clicked on the Bittorrent download
and Getright downloaded it from the ftp site at 70KB/sec...

Bittorent seems the way to go. I also had problems downloading lindows. I
used Bit Tornadow and was able to get the complete lindows iso. Took awhile
with my 28.8 connect but it made it through. while other programs like
leechget failed continualy at about the 50% mark.

Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and install Bittorrent. I installed
and tried DLExpert99, hoping its "get URL from IE" function would
work, but no joy. Haven't tried Leechget yet, since the latest version
requires IE6. How did you input to URL into Leechget to start the
download? And which version of Leechget did you use.

I figure if you can get 50% at 28.8, maybe I could get the whole thing
at 150KB/sec?

I'm downloading it now. I can't see how a download program can work on
bittorent files. I am familiar with torrents but they usually involve
downloading and uploading at the same time which is how the lindows download
is working for me. There is a link at the lindows site for bittorrent
software.

The lindows site free-offer also has an FTP url. I tried the FTP link and
got about 1.1k d/l, then it just sat there at 5mb download for over 20
minutes. BT is the way to go for that offer.

I don't know how it works either, but I just finished downloading it
with IE5.01, sweating it all the way. After at least a dozen aborts
after anywhere from 3MB to 143MB transferred, I started a download at
about 9:30 Mountain Time, and it just kept chugging along at about
99.5KB/sec.

I followed the instructions posted by Livewire initially in the
Lindows for free thread, and clicked on the title line, and the
download popup showed the download to be linspire-full-4.5.393.iso.

The only catch is that I couldn't get Stardownloader or DLexpress99 to
pick up the URL from IE.

Had the same experience, but kept trying, and eventually got it at
about 99KB/sec. Maybe it depends on the amount of traffic.

Interesting - yours is the second report I've seen of GetRight being
able to download Lindows. How did you get the target URL into it. Did
it import it automatically from your browser?

Leech Get 2004 1.1 , and when I clicked on the link for the file at lindows
leechget started the download.

Son of Spy gave very detailed and accurate details on how to get the
download. I also have GetRight set as my default downloader. The only
time that GetRight does not kick in is when I am downloading from
Microsoft Updates.

You can skip all the rigor morole by downloading the torrent
for linspire-full-4.5.393.iso here:
http://www.filerush.com/torrents/linspire-full-4.5.393.iso.torrent

Downloading now using TorrentStorm client. Estimated time 3 hours or
so, downloading at around 30-40KBps.

We'll see how it goes.

Not that I'm going to do anything with it at this point, but it will
be nice to have in case I decide to play with it later.

With Mandrake 10 out, and other new versions of the main distros
coming, and with Linspire's limitations, I don't really need it. I'm
still running RH 7.3 and intending to upgrade to current if I can ever
stop fixing Windows 2000 long enough to switch over my day-to-day
work.

Well, that failed. Bombed out when I wasn't looking by trying to do a
scrape when my Kerio was set to block everything. Now I can't restart
it, so I've given up - 94.5% done over four hours and it blows up.

Well, I don't really need Lindows anyway.

I'm new at this. I apologize for wasting your time.
I just found this site that shows that there art no seeds.
Shoulda found this site first, before assuming that, because it
started to work, it would finish. I too am stuck at 94% like
you. I guess unless someone has the entire linspire-full-
4.5.393.iso and decides to seed it, all of us leechers are
stuck!
