Limiting a Program's RAM Usage

I'm having problems running my favorite dictionary on my laptop. The
program nags "At least 3MB of memory is required." Having 1GB memory
installed on the machine, I think there might be some kind of overflow
in this legacy dictionary, so that it cannot figure out the amount of
memory installed.

Is it possible to limit the amount of memory available to this program?
