limited user accs. not fully functional

Hi, I have a new computer running XP Home. I have 4 accounts- 1 administrator and 3 limited

My problem is that my Office 2003 programs wont start in the limited user accounts. They keep asking for product key No
When given they begin to install then close down. On restarting they ask for product key again. Round and round we go

If I make these accounts administrator everything works fine.

I dont want the kids to have administrator rights --they have too many already

Any ideas???

Thanks.

hm.. not sure why that happens but I don't think its because they're not administrator
What you could do is set them all for administrator, go in, open Office '03, and if it does come up enter it then try setting back to Limited. Hope this helps, try it..

This is a permissions issue, as you thought. It is a
folder permissions issue, as opposed to a user rights
issue. The easiest way to troubleshoot which directories
don't have the right permission is to start as high up
the folder heirarchy you feel comfortable changing. My
advice is to start in the C:\program files\office\
directory by assigning 'modify' permission to 'users',
making sure that you specifiy this directory, and
subdirectories and overwriting all child nodes. Log on as
a limited user and see if that works. If not set the
permissions back the way you found them and procede to
the windows folder. Always make sure you can retrace your
steps as you do not want to give limited users too many
rights, otherwise what's the point in having them
limited!!!!
Best of luck.

Jonathan with administrator accounts the programs work fine. It's only when i make them limited the problems begin.

Phil sounds promising. Where can I find out about permissions? It's an area of the computer I have never explored. I will need some specific direction.

Thanks guys.
