Limited or no connectiviy for a wired desktop

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 running XP SP2 connected via patch cable to a
Linksys router. It has worked uninterrupted for well over a year. Yesterday
it working in the morning and when I used it in the afternoon Norton was
yelling at me because it couldn't get to the internet. That's when I noticed
the "limited or no connectivity" status on my local area connection. I tried
a ipconfig release/renew but the renew fails because the server service
failed to start. My laptop connect fine (wireless or wired) to the router so
the DHCP server in the router seems to be ok. I've changed patch cables and
tried assigning a static IP to the desktop. Nothing works. Dell diag says
the adapter is ok. Sounds like I'm suddenly missing something from XP
networking or something is corrupt. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Dpucec,
Try this Run Command ipconfig /flushdns press OK.
Unplug the *Router* for about 40 Seconds or so then Plug it again and log in
and see if you can connect to the server.

Addition to Nass' suggestion, you may want to upgrade the Linksys router firmware. This search result may also help,

Troubleshooting limited or no connectivity "This connection has limited or no connectivity. " "You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources" ...

SUCCESS!!!!
I followed the instructions at the HowToNetworking website:
1) Install XP support tools (complete version)
2) From cmd prompt run "netdiag /test:winsock". This resulted in a failed
winsock test (service could not load or be started)
3) Deleted the corrupt Winsock entries from the registry (restart).
4) Installed TCP\IP from XP cd (restart).
5) Logon and was able to lease an IP from DHCP again. Internet access
returned!

Thanks for your help.
