Limited or No Connectivity XP SP2

I recently encountered the "Limited or No Connectivity" issue with my Desktop
with XP SP2 whenever I repaired the connection I would get the error "Windows
could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not
be completed: Renewing your IP address" and windows would assign an an IP
address of 169.254.xxx.xxx when it should be something like 192.168.1.3

Eventually I found that if I set the NIC to "10 BaseT Full Duplex" it would
pick up a DHCP configuration from the router and was PINGable and
communicated. But not if set to "Auto-negotiate" nor to any of the "100
BaseT" settings.

If I wire my Laptop (XP SP1) in to the same router port with the same cable
it connects seamlessly at 100MBps.....Does anybody have an idea how to get
this connection running at 100MBps?

Try updating the NIC driver on the desktop (from the manufacturer's website)
or, if that doesn't work, try another NIC.

Any other ideas, I have read that other people have had similar problems with
different NICs I really think this is an SP2 flaw. This NIC use to be
running with no problems until I moved in to a new house, I am using the same
setup as in the previous house and as I said I am able to connect my Laptop
(xp SP1) with no issues at 100MBps. I am stumped any suggestions are
welcomed.

In your case, I suggest you at least try Lanwench's reasonable advice.
But you could try a Google search using:
"Windows XP SP2 Limited or No Connectivity" (with or without the quotes)
and check out the various links that come up.
What NIC exactly is having the issue?
I am using a Linksys LNE 100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (LNE 100TX v4)
with XP Pro SP2 connecting through a Linksys WCG 200 router to COX cable
with all Windows Updates installed and not having the issue you describe.
(I am also running the latest version of ZoneAlarm Security Suite)
