I turned my desktop on after 4 months and tried connecting
it to the internet.
It is behind a router on a cable internet connection.
I tried connecting both a wired and a wireless adapter and
still get the error message of limited or no connectivity.
If i force an IP address (192.168.0.110) then i can connect
to the router but recieve no packets. I can ping the router
and from the router i can ping my ip address. When i ping my
ip from the router or ping the router i recieve packets.
I tried installing the Microsoft patch KB884020 and also
updated my registry with
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IPSec]
"AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule"=dword:00000002
but no use.
FYI when i start my computer i get an error message
"Loading C\
ROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL. The specified
module could not be found."
Any Suggestions?
Thanks

It would appear that you had a browser hijacker installed on
your computer and a scan by an antivirus and/or antispyware
program that you have installed on your system removed the
hijacker but left behind an entry in your registry. Run the
registry editor and look for the following item:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\new.net
startup
If it's present, delete it.
FYI, do a Google search for NewDotNet and NEWDOT~2.DLL if you
want more info on this hijacker.
As for connecting to the internet, download both of these
programs:
LSPFix 1.0
http://www.spychecker.com/program/lspfix.html
WinSock XP Fix 1.2
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
Run the first one, LSPFix, and see if it solves your
connectivity problem. If not, run WinSock XP Fix.
Once you've fixed these problems you might want to run scans
with your AV/AS software.
You should also run a scan with AdAware and Spybot S & D.
AdAware
http://www.spychecker.com/program/adaware.html
Spybot S & D
http://www.spychecker.com/program/spybot.html
Next, you might want to visit some of the online virus scanners
and see what they find:
Run both the AntiVirus and the AntiSpyware scan on this site:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Click on the "Scan your PC button" while holding down the CTRL
key (to override any popup stoppers):
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
McAfee FreeScan

Symantec Security Check

Finally, go to this web site and download HijackThis:
HijackThis 1.99.1

Run the program and save the log. There are a number of web
