Hi,
I use a netgear DG834GT as my ADSL Modem which is Connected to a 16 port
switch. Is there any way that I can limit the speed/data rate that is
allowed to pass through a single connection. i.e. instead of a user
hogging the bandwidth by downloading music etc, he/she is only allocated a
256kbs connection whilst the other connections remain at full speed. Hope
you get my train of thought here.

Regards

John

I know of no since animal short of a full blown server. But I am sure
someone writing software for this task would sell millions of copies.

John,

Look for QOS enabled routers. They don't restrict by bandwidth quantity, they
prioritise by bandwidth need. I don't know if that would be granular enough for
your needs, but check them out.

Many thanks guys,
I did manage to find a program called Netlimiter which does the job, sort
of, but I will look out for the QOS routers
