Licensing XP on new machine

I currently have 5 computers, 4 with XP installed from
the hardware vendor. I just bought XP Pro. Can I take XP
Home from one of my current machines and install it on my
one Win98 machine and install XP Pro in its place? How?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi, If its a retail copy of XP Home then yes. if OEM (installed on the PC
when you bought it) then no.

Just do it, you should be able to re-install it as many
times as you want. It will activate on-line every 120
days otherwise you have to use the automated activation.
After say two installs you'll talk to someone tell them
anything you want.

Jim,
You can't move the original license from one machine to another (OEM license).

Greetings --

You certainly can, if you like, replace the WinXP Home with WinXP
Pro. However, if that copy of WinXP Home came pre-installed on the
PC -- and it certainly sounds that way from your description, then you
have an OEM license. An OEM license is _permanently_ bound to the
first PC on which it was installed, and is *not* transferable to any
other PC, under any circumstances. It may be removed, but not re-used
elsewhere.
