Licencing question with XP used on VMware?

I am about to purchase VMware and want to run a copy of XP as a virtual OS.

When I attempt to install XP virtually, it is going to 'call home' and will
presumably see that it is already installed.

What will happen?
Is this allowed under a single license?
Any help appreciated.

You need an individual license (Product Key) for each
installation, regardless if its installed on the same PC.
Otherwise, Product Activation fill fail and you'll be
in violation of the End-User License Agreement.

If you already have a retail copy of Windows XP, you can obtain
additional licenses for an additional installation by visiting the
following Microsoft Web site:
