I am hoping someone can help me. I built a computer a couple of weeks ago. I
got everything going good until one day my system overheated and shutdown.
Everything was running well and then all of a sudden my CPU fan shutdown.
Obviously this scared me even though it did not happen again until today. I
had unhooked my DVD writer(LG DVD REwriter 4120B) because my system was
crashing (complete automatic shutdown crashes) at weird times and my computer
stopped recognizing my Rewriter as anything but a cd-rom. When I disabled the
drive my computer seemed pretty happy (no more crashing). I was still trying
to troubleshoot why my pc overheated so I decided to hook up my Lg DVD writer
again. The first time I turned my computer on after connecting the IDE cable
and the power to my dvd writer the CPU warn came on and the fan shut it self
off. I immediatly shutdown and restarted the machine. Same thing. I unhooked
the drive again and the computer alarm came on and the fan stopped until
windows loaded up and then it started and the alarm stopped. I tried this
process a few time with the same results. I have since put a cd-rom in the
same slot and hooked up the same cables and everything seems okay. Very
weird. I have emailed LG tech support but I thought that I would throw this
out there and see if anybody had suggestions. I am really concerned about
permanent damage to my system. Spec if this help. K8NS Pro Gigabyte
motherboard, AMD Athalon 64 3000+ with 512 ddr Ram and running ATI 9700OW
Pro. If anyone's got anythng I would love to hear it.
Thanks
