LF: Print Friendly Photo Cropper

G'day,
I'm looking to do two specific things with my digital pics. I'm
using win98 and have been using IrfanView and Faststone Viewer, but
I may have overlooked a Plugin that will do what I require. I've
also downloaded about 20 other freeware image editors, but only
installed about six before my patience ran out :/
I'm hoping someone else has found the right program(s) that I'm
looking for :)

(1) I think I saw my first need mentioned here at one time, but I
didn't d/l at that time and can't recall what to search for. The
program optimizes the layout for the printing of multiple photos on
one page automatically.
(ie. two 3x5 and one 5x7 on one 8 1/2 x 11 photo sheet)
Sound familiar ?

(2) The second request may not exist, but there's so many freebies
out there I'm hoping one comes close or someone shows me the error
of my ways.
I am currently using Faststone to crop photos to the print size I
want, eliminating the edges as required. I use Faststone because I
can move the cropped size in the photo to see what edges are being
removed. But depending on the image resolution, print size required
and amount of image being cropped, I'm always re-calculating inches
to pixels to get the crop size I want for each photo. I then use
Irfanview to resize the image for printing because it has the option
to resize by pixels, cm or inches.
Is there an easier solution in the freeware world?

Cheers,
tomZ

Well, you have my sympathy, because I have been looking for a good Freeware
printing program for years.

I use a <AHEM!> Payware program called XaraXtreme. You launch the program,
drag the pictures to a virtual page, size them, rotate them, multiply them
(EG Wallet size), move them freeform around the page (they snap to a grid
for accuracy) then print. I can't find a Freeware program that's even close,
but I'll keep looking.

I also use Faststone for cropping. It has the most useful and intuitive
cropping feature I have found so far.

After searching the acf ng, and re-visiting Google, I've found the
following:

http://www.fpdoctor.com/pps/main/main-j-0-0.html
Photo Paper Saver v1.5.3.9 >>>>> Crippleware :(
It looks sufficient for my needs though.

http://www.shortcourses.com/how/printingsoftware/printingsoftware.htm
Free/demo/trial/$ 'PrintingSoftware' including:
Iomega Photo Printer
ftp://ftp.iomega.com/pub/english/photoprinter72web.exe
It was previously recommended at acf, but I couldn't locate any
"official" Iomega webpage.

I'm still looking into this one, but I have located more sites to
get lost in :/
http://www.maxpatchink.com/free.shtml
Some freeware mixed in with share/$ ware.

I also found references to EasyTek's Photo Assistant 98, but EasyTek
is now a search/sell portal, and hits in google now lead to that
deadend or cracks. If anyone knows of "Photo Assistant 98"
legitimate status or location, please advise.
