Lexmark Z42 printer

I recently upgraded from 98 SE to XP home Ed and now
cannot print to my Lexmark Z42 printer. I have tried
LPT1,2 and USB ports and cables, but cannot even print a
test page. It spools and stays there. I have downloaded
and reloaded both signed and unsigned drivers many
times. Device manager says the ports are working fine. I
have just re-installed my old hard drive with 98 SE on it
and the printer is working again. It is something about
Windows XP. Can anyone help please?

You kept the printer connected during the upgrade........ now you must do a
COMPLETE uninstall and reinstall of the printer. Disconnect the printer
from the PC.

It's a Lexmark. See Bruce Sanderson's instructions at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

After rebooting, download a new set of drivers from the Lexmark website and
install the software. Do NOT reconnect the printer to the PC until the
software tells you to do so.
