Letters to Contacts in 2007

In 2003 I could right click on a contact, and select "letter to contact".
This would open Word and populate the template of my choice with contact
details. I think it also put an entry in the Activities section, including a
link to the Word file?
In 2007, the only way I can write a letter is to open Word separately, then
use Address book for contact details. After filing, I then have to use the
Attach File option in the Contact to link the file. Even then, it puts the
file link into the Notes section of the Contact Record - not the Activities.
Seems MS have REDUCED the compatibility between Word & Outlook - or am I
missing something?
