i'm having some trouble editing my database as it refuses to believe that i
have exclusive access to it, even using the 'open exclusive' option.

I've gleaned some clues from other threads on this forum that there are
things called .ldb files that may have something to do with this (possibly
that i need to delete an old and obsolete one) but I don't really know what
they are or where to find them.

If anyone could offer any help on this i'd be most grateful...

It sound be in the same directory as the .mdb file you are opening. If
you have linked tables, it may be worthwhile to also check the directories
and files that are linked as well.

Furthermore, ldb files have the structure of an access database and may be
opened with access.

I believe you're thinking of .mdw files.
