Law and Order-Double or Nothing

Need help with the new Law and Order game-Finally was able
to install the game after changing the compatibility to
Windows 98 (have XP)---When I tried to install on XP, I
would immedietly get an "Application Error--This
application cannot run".. Now when I try to start the
game, I get to choose full screen or centered , then it
goes right to an Error report to send to Microsoft, I did
that 1 time and they said it was a "Sun systems" problem,
who then said it was a JAVA problem, I downloaded the
newest Java plug-in, but it still does not work---I have
the Directx 8.1 and the GeForce2GTS chip...I already treid
the Legacy Interactive people, but they didn't seem to be
able to help either..PS(the first Law and Order {Dead on
the Money} ran fine)--any ideas??? Thanks

Hi CCL,

If you had to use Compatibility Mode to install your game, you may
have to use Compatibility Mode to play the game as well.

The Java issue is unique in so far as this is the first time I've heard
of a game using Java which is NOT an online game. However...

Sun.com will examine your system requirements and install the Java version you
need when you click: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

If the game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Download Microsoft Virtual Machine for Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from:
http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

2. Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

3. Sometimes SUN Java and Microsoft VM can conflict with each other. You may need
to uninstall one of the two versions.

FYI... it does use Java. It also requires DirectX 7 and QuickTime 6. It
may be that Quicktime is the problem as that's the first thing that kicks in
when you launch the game, but check out this support FAQ which offers
similar advice to what Jimmy has already posted if it is indeed a JVM issue:

http://www.legacyinteractive.com/support/faq_lno.php

There are some patches available for issues like this, depending on if you
have the "two disk version" or the "three disk version" of the game.

Hi,

Just a quick note. XP ships with DX 8.1 which you should upgrade
eventually to the latest version (DX 9.0b). Do not attempt to down-
grade your DirectX installation to version 7 on a Win XP system! :)

I'm having a similar problem. It all seems to install correctly and when I go to run the program, the full screen of center selection comes up, but when I select either one nothing happens. I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and there is no program listed.

What am I doing wrong? Is it java? I've got the latest Java, but this uses something called "Java 2 runtime environment". Did it not install correctly?

I haven't tried the MS virtual machine because I don't really understand it or where to get it. I tried to search Microsoft's website, but I don't know which one to use.

Thanks for the help.
