Directx 6 and DarkStone

Hi,

I'm trying to play an old game called DarkStone published by Delphine
Software.
It was working fine under Win95 and Win98 with DirectX 6.

I'm now running Windows XP and DirectX 9c.

When trying to start the game, I get a freeze and the Error prompt of
Windows XP.
I tried the Compatibility wizard with Win95 and Win98 settings without
success, getting always the same error prompt and freezing.

I tried the WinNT4 mode and it seems to work, but I now get a prompt with a
message telling me that I use DirectX3 and that the game requires DirectX6 or
higher.

Once again, I'm using DirectX9c -> Where is the bug and how to fix it?
I tried to install DirectX6 but it doesn't change anything, always the same
message prompts.

Thanks for any help.

A few others have already gone through the process of getting DarkStone to play
using Windows XP: http://www.ntcompatible.com/Darkstone_under_XP_t24353.html

I followed the link you gave me, but...
There are a lot of questions asked on that forum, without any answer to them.
Darkstone seams to stay out of play under windows XP
Anything more specific?

Hi Compufly,

You missed at least one answer. :)

The first thread I clicked on replied to the poster as follows:
"Worked fine for me in 2K/XP last time I played it using patch v.1.0.5B."

Looks like the patch might solve the problem. A quick google found this:
http://www.rpgplanet.com/darkstone/downloads.htm (All patches and DL's)

I hope that helps!

| I get :
| File Not Found!
| We're sorry, but the page you requested could not be found.
|
| But I think that this one will do the job, I hope that files are still there.

| 404 File Not Found :~(
|
| I'll try to find it elsewhere.
| Delphine Software does'nt exist anymore...
|
| Anyway, thanks for all.
