Launching MS Word for a *.doc file outside of IE

How do I launch MS Word for a *.doc file found while using IE? I would
prefer to use MS Word separately, not as module of IE. This would apply to
all MS Office applications. Please advise.

Open the Windows Explorer and go to Tools/Folder Options. Then on the
File Types tab select DOC Microsoft Word Document. Click the Advanced
command and Edit the file type and turn off "Browse in same window".
Do the same for the other Office file types that are not opening in
the application.
