Latest Catalyst disables X600 resolutions

I downloaded the latest Catalyst driver and did a
clean install. Works nice, but I no longer have
resolutions like 1280 x 800 ... which in the case of
my LCD monitor is directly proportional to the
native resolution of 1440 x 900, but gives a more
readable desktop. Is there any way to restore this
1280 x 800 to the options in Catalyst Control Center?

In the old days, the monitor driver (INF file) needs to be reinstalled
whenever the video card drivers are updated. Worth a try here. Remove the
monitor from Device Manager, reboot, and point Windows to the INF file when
prompted.

Another option may be to simply run at 1440x900 and use "large fonts" (120%
normal size) in Windows. This way you get the benefit of sharper image at
the monitor's native resolution, along with readable text.

Most monitors don't have INF files. However, the current technology is
that the video card and the monitor "talk" to each other over the DDC
(display data channel .... it's part of any DVI or DFP interface). The
monitor tells the video card what resolutions and refresh rates it supports.

tried both .. uninstall and repoint to inf file. And install
120 point fonts. The first did not work, and just remained
the same. I tried rolling back to the original driver, but
Windows refused that also. Then I tried the larger fonts,
and while they were larger, they were also thin and whispy,
and equally unviewable because they were not large
enough. I have a 20 inch LCD monitor ( VX2025wm)
with nVidia 6800 that allows custom settings. I simply
took my calculator and calc'd 75% of the native 1680
x 1050 to get 1264 x 788 ( weird ), and that worked
fine, plus the fonts retained their darkness and became
very readable. I need the same capability in the Catalyst
driver to get down to 1280 x 800 on this X600 based
system ( viewsonic 19 inch lcd monitor ) so that I
don't get graphics distortion in AutoCAD ( circles turn
to ovals ) and also readable fonts. I did that with the
6800 and 19 inch monitor, and the fonts and graphics
looked nice. The X600 with Catalyst 6.7 simply won't
cooperate.
