Latest Beta Version

Gerry Cornell

FWIW I have just uninstalled the version expiring 31 July and downloaded
the version expiring 31 December 2005. The old version worked only using
a workaround. However, the latest version now starts up automatically so
from my point of view one very annoying problem looks to be solved. The
programme still has, however, to find a nasty. This is on a machine used
daily and having not run any anti-spyware scans for over a month.

Hope this helps.

Either you have very good web surfing habits or you are not running parallel
products that also check for spyware. No one product catches them all (-:

Thanks Gerry--glad to hear it. I would suggest that probably the majority
of users of this beta have a similar experience to yours, in terms of
detections. Many users don't hit this problem in a significant way--witness
the daily posts here lamenting that Microsoft Antispyware finds nothing.

The review results assure me that indeed, where there is something important
to be found--this product is finding it.

The end of Error 101 to me is the big plus.

I can well imagine that it is!

The error isn't gone, however, I've got a current install on a beta OS which
showed me this issue--I expect that it will change significantly with beta2,
but until then it will still be with us.

(I understand that it is gone for you--but I know that the underlying issue
is still present in the beta1 code, and we'll still see new posts of users
hitting it.)

MSAS is still not finding anything. It does, however, ask about whether to allow certain changes so it clearly is running in the background.

Not finding, in your case, is good, I believe. The real-time protection
should help you keep clean. If you run alternative products, you'll find
that they spot cookies, which tend to build up over time--but they shouldn't
find anything substantive.
