Last XP update prevents desktop rightclick

After the latest automatic installation of Windows XP updates this
week, I can no longer rightclick on my desktop to access properties.

I did a system restore to April 16, then it worked fine. However, the
Windows XP automatic update installs..automatically. Once I reboot my
computer with the new updates, the rightclick no longer works. My
computer hangs up and I can't click on anything else.

Is anyone aware of an issue with the latest XP update?

Thanks.

Hi callmecappy,

A number of users have noted various issues after having installed the
KB908531 update. Here is a troubleshooting article that references known
issues with the update and includes a resolution:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

In the FAQ section of the following security bulletin, MS has stated that
they will be issuing a revised version of the update on the 25th:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS06-015.mspx

Until the revised version becomes available, if you would prefer to do a
System Restore or uninstall the update via Add/Remove programs rather than
leaving the update installed and performing the workaround, I would recommend
temporarily turning off Automatic Updates so that the "problem" update is not
re-installed prior to the revised version becoming available.

I notice the last few days both of my computers were hanging up at times. One quick check I notice
was that I could go anywhere on the disktop and right click and about every
four or five times doing this
xp would hang up. I also did a ctlaltdel and started the task manager and
found that the verclsid.exe program
was starting when the computer would hang up. Doing some checking on line I
would that kb908531 patch
from micorsoft was causing the problem The following site had a text file
kb908531_allfix-xp.txt
that will fix the problem.
I downloaded the file to my disktop then changed it to Kb908531_allfix-xp.reg
then ran it and it added the lines need to fix the problem.

This problem was driving me crazy until I found this fix.
