Laserjet 4000 Fuser bushing wear out fast...

Hi,

We have a Laserjet 4000 that keeps wearing out the left bushing that
suports the axis of the roller in the fuser assembly. We have had it
replaced 3 times now and it wears out about 2 months later. I know when
its worn out because it will start bending the left hand corners of the
print outs and eventually it will not print at all.

Any thoughts on why I have this recuring problem or where I can get the
plastic bushings with out having to buy the whole fusor?

Thanks and happy new year!

http://www.printerassociates.com/compparts.asp seem to have the parts.

I have never come across this, the bushing should not wear out anything like
this fast.
Are you talking about the end that has the main drive gear or the other end?
If it is the main drive gear end then the gearing that drives the fuser may be
at fault, perhaps misaligned when installaed or it could have worn bearings.
There must be a cause that is external to the fuser. I will do a little
research and post again if I find anything.

Hey, Thanks Tony.

Its the end that does not have the gears next to it. I spoke with a
repair tech. and he told me that
those bushings should not be plastic but that is what has been put int
there. The bushing on the gear
end does wear out but not nearly as fast so I end up switching them.

I don't know whether the bushings should be plastic or not and I'm sorry I
don't know the correct name.
But if they should not be plastic and are plastic in your fusers then that
could be the problem. Did you get the replacement fusers from the same supplier
each time?
You could try to post a question in the Laser forum at
www.fixyourownprinter.com, you need to register first (there is no charge) and
ask if the question of plastic/non plastic bushings is a known problem and
describe your experience, that site is very helpful (they have several
professionals that answer questions there) and are also commercial so they may
be able to provide the bushings for you. Give them as much information as
possible and post your question with a clear subject line like "LJ4000 fuser
bushings"
Sorry I have not come across this issue and could not find any information on
it so am out of ideas.
Good luck

Are you using large amounts of thick stock or anything that might
provide higher wear? But that does seem very over the top.
www.precisionroller.com probably have the parts as well.
