I've got a Brother HL1470N, which is probably a discontinued model by
now, but I am very pleased with it. Previous to that I had another
similar model from Brother's HL series which I gave to my then
girlfriend when I bought the HL1470N. Been using this one for 5 years
probably and ne'er any bother, oh brother!

But these days you really should go for anything reliable that is on
offer. In other words you have to look around and see what is going at a
knock down price providing it is a reliable make.

The market's a jungle out there!

I have a HP LaserJet, a CP2025dn (duplex networked), that has
been great for my SOHO. No problems, but the cost of ink is
pretty steep. This LaserJet replaced an older B&W HP LaserJet
which worked very well for ~17 years! With my experience, I
would not consider any printer other than HP.

{Full disclosure: I am, officially, a HP retiree, although
I never actually worked for HP.}

Confirmed. Brother printers (both inkjet and laser) have been
discounted hereabouts for $40-60 (less than the price of toner or a
set of branded inks in some cases) and are reliable and efficient.
I have one HL2040 laser printer and two model 330 inkjets.

I bought a barely used HP LJ2100 for a song off of Craigslist a few
years back. It's a "small to medium" business model which is way
overkill for my uses, but it is very reliable and puts out a good copy.

I don't like having to buy printers, so having a dependable one that I
can count on is important.

I'm with you! Lasers are much better and more reliable than inkjets.

Do you want a color printer or a black and white? Assuming the former,
I use and like a Samsung CLP315.

I have a Samsung CLP-620ND Laser Color printer.

Can connect via network, USB, WiFi.

** Double-Sided printing **

I bought is via Staples OnLine, but the CLP-620ND is no longer listed,
but more updated models are.

REMINDER: The most expensive thing about laser printers is the Laser
Cartridges. There fore you may want to check the prices for
replacements for whatever printer you choose.

I purchased HP lasers B&W for work and aways had problems with any HP
product including the HP stuff I bought for home.

I Bought a Samsung CLX3175 for home and it lasted many years.
It needed a new fuser and four cartridges. That cost as much as a new
printer so I bought a new printer with more features.

I bought a Samsung M2020 B&BW for $69 + 10 shipping since most I print
is B&W and a Samsung Color C460FW multi (scan, copy print fax) for
special occassions. Both through Amazon since it was the best price.

I weighed the cost of toner against the copies per cartridge to get an
idea of usage cost.

Take note that the cartridges that come with the new printer are not
full. that is so you will soon need to buy new full cartridges. That
is an importanat cost consideration.

Also note than some lasers have a drum on each cartridge (costs more)
and some have one drum. So if the drum goes bad on the single drum
type it can cost more than half the price of the printer.

I have never tried to use off-brand cartridges so i have no advice
there.

I also had problems with a number of HP products.

I thought it was ridiculous to have to use an angle grinder to open up one of their broken inkjets. :) Quite serious.

I have read good reviews about Brother printers and their off brand toners.
