Laser Mouse

I'm not sure where to get this information, but I thought I'd give it a try
here.

I am currently using a Logitech Optical Cordless mouse that I'm quite
satisfied with except for the fact that when you use the scroll button up or
down, there are definate 'clicks' that you can feel on the wheel and also
see on the screen. I would like to upgrade to a laser mouse but want to know
if this 'clicking' motion has been replaced with a very smooth scrolling
motion. This would be my main requirement in a new mouse.

Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks.

"Laser" refers to the optics on the underside of the mouse, not to the
scroll wheel. Using a laser allows the mouse to track more precisely.

Microsoft makes mouses (mice?) with smooth scrolling. I love that
sensation. Most other manufacturers still use a tactile scroll wheel.
The tactile feel is supposed to make scrolling more accurate, but I
don't see the difference. I do know that my finger doesn't like that
'grinding' feeling. Chacun son gout.

If you're replacing the mouse in a wireless desktop set with a Microsoft
mouse there's a little gotcha that you should know about. Post back if
that is your situation.

Thanks Ted. Actually I don't have an entire desktop set, just the Logitech
cordless mouse. I would like a new one with this 'smooth' scrolling feature
that you mention, but would also like to stick with Logitech. Is that
possible (desireable?)

AFAIK all Logitech mice have the 'tactile' scroll wheel. If you want
smooth scrolling get a Microsoft mouse. Smooth scrolling is not a
standard feature, so make sure that feature is included in the description.

To add to what has been said. I have a microsoft intellimouse 3.0 and the
scrolling wheel has definite notches when you scroll. I personally don't
mind it. Make sure you look at the features stated if buying online.

I've reviewed the Microsoft products Ted, but I can't seem to find any of
them with 'smooth scrolling' in the description. Perhaps you could steer me
in the right direction. Thanks.

Perhaps because smooth scrolling is available in all but most basic of
Microsoft mice it's no longer listed as a separate feature. Just go to
any store that sells mice and you can experience it for yourself.

The only reason I would buy this mouse is the 'clickless' scroll wheel which
this reviewer considers a dissadvantage. I use my mouse as a remote control
when watching movies and the Microsoft mouse has very limited range and
another problem is that it does not offer a rechargeable battery system like
the Logitech. So in the final analysis I would be giving up a lot for the
sake of the smooth scrolling.

I am having issues with the Wireless Lase Mouse 6000. It appears to go to
Sleep after a few seconds, and will not respond to movement nor scrolling
until it is moved a few times. Very annoying. Especially during a game.

Any ideas or suggestions?
