Large GIFs not displayed

[Quake]

IE6 on WinXP & Win2000 will not display GIF images
that are over a certain size (~300K). All I see is a
little box with an X in it. I've tried both local GIF
files and GIF files from websites; neither will show.
I've tried clearing cache, increasing TIF folder size,
still no GIFs.

Large JPGs work just fine.

Is there some configuration setting that is limiting?
