Large document with 15 sections

I'm working on a document in Word with 15 sections and about 100 to 150
pages. Some equations and less than 20 enhanced metafiles included as
figures, really basic sketches.

The document appears to fail or corrupt easily. I get to the point where
strange things happen like it stops printing and Word locks up. Then no one
can print it and I can not even print to Adobe PDF.

The advise I have received is chop it up into 15 separate documents without
section breaks.

Sounds like I have something fairly basic going wrong. Word 2002. File
stored on company server.

Your last comment might have something to do with it. Do you have the option
checked (Tools | Options | Save) to "Make local copy of files stored on
network or removable drives"? That might help.
