Large disk space occupied in C:\WINDOWS

Hi , my window xp currently is running out of disk space . I checked my
folders and found that C:\WINDOWS is taking up 13GB of space , the
strange thing is when i select all files and folders to do a check , it
shows only 2GB !!
May i know where does the 11GB had gone to ?? my 'show all hidden
files and folders' option is set to show.

Hi

Try this:

Go to a command prompt, change to the Windows folders and then run the
following command:

dir /a/s

What disk space is reported as being used then?

Hi

That's your 13GB - you must have some large files in there somewhere. If
those files aren't showing up in Windows Explorer, run the following command
from a command prompt in the Windows folder:

dir /a/s > windows.txt

That will create a file in the Windows folder called windows.txt. Have a
look at the file in Notepad and see where all the large files are.

Download a free software called Sequoia View
ftp://ftp.win.tue.nl/pub/home/sequoia/SequoiaInstall.exe
It illustrates everything on your selected hard drive. It will show files by
colors and by size of blocks indicating the size of the file compared to the
total drive.

HI , i checked the windows.txt
i found that C:\WINDOWS\Installer had 2385 File(s)
11,590,005,852 bytes
which i think should be the main problem .

So can i just delete the files in it ? most of the files are .msp .

Hi

I've got .msp & .msi files in that folder - about 1.2GB. I've just deleted
all the files and sub-folders although some of the Desktop icons have lost
their definitions.
