Large Arial font shows jagged on the page

I have used Arial or Hevetica for the large font size I am using on our
site, i.e, 140 or 144 points, tried them both. Although the font is supposed
to be True Type, it still pixilates. Is there any way around this?
 
Try doing in a graphics application.

Why so large?

In html Font size 5 (18 point) is the largest I dare to go and only
occasionally for headings. One way round that could be to use
optimised images for very large font sizes.
