Laptop with XP Pro

I recently purchased a DELL desktop with Vista installed. I considered
suicide after a few days with that miserable OS. Called their Tech Support
and got conflicting info. Yes, I can convert to XP Pro - NO I can't. Finally
wrote to the Pres. and at least was able to return the whole package to
them.
One Tech rep told me I could have installed XP (my copy) - another said NO
WAY.

The Sales Dept told me NO MORE XP- PERIOD- and I interpreted that DELL did
not want to violate their agreement with MS to promote the devil out of the
misfit Vista---

Wouldn't you know that two weeks later I get a promo email from them selling
computers with XP installed---By that time I had already purchased an XP Pro
and installed it on my trusty seven-year old DELL Dimension. Voila- it works
like a charm and all the sales pitching by the DELL Tech Support people was
humbug. (Except one of them, who agreed with me I could indeed install XP on
my Vista computer. His name won't be mentioned, but he was at least
honest---

Today, you can fins desktops and portables with XP - just search like mad
with Google.

Good luck - don't let Vista ruin your sanity - it'll soon be gone down the
sewers, where it originally belonged...

It all depends if XP Drivers have been written for the particular Hardware,
as to whether you can install XP on a laptop that came with Vista
pre-installed.

Laptops are the worst example of incompatibility of installing XP on Vista
based ones, as there is a lack of XP drivers being written for the new
Hardware.

If you had checked the Dell website for XP drivers for your Model, you would
not have to be here ranting and raving.

They didnt get the bugs out of each release until after the next one was
released,
early updaters are Beta Testers, unpaid.
Vista may work, eventually, just not till after the next one is released

Vista file indexing can take a while but is probably worth the wait. As long
as the machine is well enough specified, it should work well. Sometimes, a
re-install helps using a generic OEM or retail version. Drivers can then be
picked up from the laptop manufacturer website..

If you are intent on reverting to XP, obtain XP drivers for the model, save
them to a flash drive, and install when you have the basic OS up and
running..
