Laptop will not reconnect to wireless network after sleep or hibernation mode

I posted this over in windowsxp group then found this one which appears to
be more appropriate - so I'll paste it here and hopefully someone has fought
and won this battle.

This appears to be the correct group and it sure looks like there's some
talent that hangs out here that just may have a clue about my laptop
problem. Actually, it's two laptops, same problem right out of the box.

Problem: Laptop will not reconnect to the wireless network after coming out
of sleep mode or from hibernation.

Problem has been there since day one (3 weeks ago) and since then I have
upgraded both with all the latest updates (and BIOS) from Compaq, Broadcom
and Microsoft. Have spent several hours on both HP's Chat Line and with
their Tech Support. Numerous things have been tried including checking the
power options, reinstalling drivers, doing a complete Repair Install, used
WinFixXP to rebuild the stack and so on and so forth.

Yep... been researching the MS KB and Goggled this thing until the cows came
home. Found some info but nothing that has solved the problem. Compaq
"escalated" the problem supposedly and were supposed to get back to me but I
think they're stumped.

These are Compaq M2010US systems, WinXP Home w/SP2 and have a Broadcom
802.1b/g WLAN wireless card and they use RealTek RTL8139/NICs for the wired
side. Everything works great otherwise but as soon as you come out of sleep
mode or hibernate mode, it cannot find the network again.. I have to do a
"repair" and then it connects back up just fine.

It's more of an annoyance problem but if I have it on two systems, I would
think that someone else has also seen the problem and perhaps found the
solution.

Thanks,

Bob S.

Actually it was the COMPAQ laptop with Broadband that caught my eye. I was
working with a friend who recently purchased one. Everytime I turned the
wireless on it would blow away all connections. I spend about 6 hours
attempting to find out why, but the connections would go from 54MB to 1MB
about 10 seconds after I turned the laptop WiFi on even on 25% power.

He subsequently took the unit back and received another - this one worked
fine. Your story lets me to belive COMPAQ has developed serious issues with
QA. They used to be the best in the industry - now I am wondering. At the
moment I am having other issues that I cannot state without a doubt it is the
laptop. I can now see the internet but cannot share or see other computers
on the wireless.

Just a thought - sounds like COMPAQ is trying to assist
