Hi,

Im looking to buy a Laptop mainly for playing back DVD's on Train and
Aeroplane journeys and considering how long batteries last and the cost
of spare batteris the best deal I can find so far seems to be the Dell
Inspiron 1300 which has :Intel® Celeron® M Processor 360 (1.40GHz,
1MB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB) &Dell TrueMobile 1370 Wireless LAN PC Card
802.11b/g and 256MB 400MHz DDR SDRAM.

I would be grateful if anyone knows if this Laptop will play back DVD's
in reasonable quality?

Thanks in advance.

John.

As long as it comes with a DVD-Rom or A DVD Burner, it will. Will it
run good is another story. If you just want it to play DVDs. I suggest
that you buy a portable DVD player. It is cheaper.

Sir,

Perhaps you might in future read a Post properly before replying to it.

Sorry, I did miss three words.

I know the first question will sound stupid. Does the laptop have a
DVD-Rom or DVD-Burner? There are laptops that don't. Also, if it
does, do you know what kind it is?

What video card does it have?

This is also needed to know if the DVDs will work fine or not. You can
have a top of the line Laptop but the video card can be crap and that
can make a difference.

Other than watching DVDs. Are you planning on doing anything with the
laptop? If not. Than a portable DVD player is a better option.

Yes, the 1300 will play a DVD. But, not like your home DVD player will. If
you are going to purchase this laptop I would suggest at least 512 MB of RAM
as I believe this unit uses shared memory for graphics.

Remember too that the physical size of the laptop will also play an
important part of your enjoyment on an airplane. If your in coach class
a computer with a 15" screen or larger can not be placed on the seat
back tray and be opened fully if the passenger in front of you has his
seat reclined, you have to place it on your lap for it to open. For what
your looking for smaller is better, the best Dell computer would be the
700m, or as mentioned before a DVD player.....

DVDs will look fine, probably better than on your TV at home.

I would get the optional high capacity battery. The DVD will use up power
faster, and you may not make it to the end of the movie before it dies.
